Z Dinners

Second gatheringSix invited seatsSan FranciscoBy invitation

Between startup, big tech, and what comes next.

The second Z Dinners table begins with a wider question: what really changes as you move between startup, big tech, and the less-scripted paths that might come after either one?

A dinner for people comparing not just companies, but ways of building a life around work.

Why this dinner

The categories no longer feel complete.

Plenty of people can describe startup and big tech as if they are two clean options. In practice, the experience is more uneven than that. Some people feel sharpened by one, stalled by the other, or quietly done with both.

Z Dinners exists to take that more candid question and place it around a smaller table, where people can compare what each world rewards, what it asks from them, and what they are starting to imagine beyond those defaults.

What kind of room this is

Not a public event page.

More like a dinner note passed to the right people.

Why now

Career maps have gotten less linear.

For a lot of smart people, the question is no longer just startup or big tech. It is how to read each kind of environment clearly, what each one gives, what each one quietly costs, and what comes after either path stops fitting.

In the room

Six invited seats.

Researchers, operators, product people, and founders comparing firsthand experience across larger companies, startups, and more self-directed paths that sit somewhere beyond both.

The tone

More honesty, less positioning.

Not a networking mixer. Not a glossy career panel. Just a smaller dinner where people can talk plainly about what each world feels like from the inside, and what they are moving toward now.

A few questions

Conversation cues, not networking talk.

Questions people usually learn to ask only after they have spent enough time inside a few different systems and started wondering what those systems are really optimizing for.

01

What does big tech still do better than people like to admit?

02

What does startup life give you that larger companies usually cannot?

03

How do you tell when a path is stretching you in the right way, versus just wearing you down?

04

If neither startup nor big tech feels like the final answer, what might come next?

A seat at the table

If this sounds like your table, let us know.

This second gathering is being convened by invitation in San Francisco. If you have moved through startup, big tech, or are now imagining something beyond both, we would be glad to hear from you.

Tell us a little about who you are and why this conversation matters to you. A concise introduction is enough.
